SUMMER BULLETIN
JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER
Hello Industry Friends and Flower Handlers:
I hope you are enjoying a curious mind, eager heart, and determined spirit as you go through this sizzling summer heat!
We intend to give you plenty to think about, look forward to, and align with in this issue of the Flowerhandlers Community Bulletin. We've got two extremes covered — local and global.
You'll find a feature about a Maryland farmer who has found himself growing flowers (pg.2) and a brief recap of a trip to Italy to visit the flower farms and EUROFLORA 2011 (pg.4) with promises of more to come later this year.
We spotlight an Italian retailer who "abandons" her store for the summer months — but it isn't to relax and slow down (see "How Do You Spend Your Summer?" pg.3) and a group of US retailers meeting this summer for change in the way they do business (pg.6).
And, if mixing business and pleasure intrigues you there is a list of international and local B2B flower shows along with news and announcements to help you plan your fall season (pg.5).
Try to fit some of them into your schedule and budget — you never know what inspiration awaits at a floral gathering or event that may be just the perfect thing that lifts your spirits and offers you the inspiration to move fast forward into the business of your dreams.
All the best to you my friends...
enjoy your floral journey!

"A flower's fragrance declares to all the world that it is fertile, available, and desirable, its sex organs oozing with nectar. Its smell reminds us in vestigial ways of fertility, vigor, life-force, all the optimism, expectancy, and passionate bloom of youth. We inhale its ardent aroma and, no matter what our ages, we feel young and nubile in a world aflame with desire."
Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses, 1990
